Because I love  Helsinki

I'm Selmi, a 25-year-old feminist, who grew up in East-Helsinki and has a Master's degree in Political Science. I am running for Helsinki City Council because I love my home city. I love its forests, its diverse people, its metro and trams, its beaches, its cultural life, its libraries.

In these elections, my main priority is to protect all this goodness and to secure a good local school, a seamless everyday life and functioning local services for every Helsinki resident, regardless of where they live.

Helsinki for the young and students

Every young person in Helsinki deserves a high-quality secondary education or preparatory education. Everyone must have the right to contact teaching

Secondary education must provide a good foundation for higher education, regardless of whether you study in a general upper secondary school or a vocational college. Student welfare, guidance and youth services need to be improved at upper secondary schools

University students must be considered in Helsinki's health and social services as well as cultural and leisure services.

Vibrant and green Helsinki

Helsinki must take care of all its residents. Everyone must have the right to an affordable home, and access to care and assistance must be equally rapid, regardless of location or wealth.

In addition to people, we must take care of our nature and our environment. Helsinki must safeguard as large and coherent natural areas as possible to protect biodiversity in the city.

In addition, Helsinki must invest in sustainable mobility, i.e. public transport, cycling and walking.

Thriving and valued East Helsinki

One in four Helsinki residents lives in East Helsinki, but only a few Helsinki City Council members are from East Helsinki.

East Helsinki must be given the position it deserves in the city's decision-making process, and East Helsinki must be kept involved in the development of the city.

East Helsinki's local nature, diverse small businesses, cultural life and sense of community are all things that are worth safeguarding and characteristic of the East.
